Frequently Asked Questions
What does the charity do?
The charity exists to provide for needy children in Sri Lanka and elsewhere around the World. We have links with Police services, Medical and Education workers and aim to support these activities as necessary.
Are there any other projects besides Sukhita Home?
Yes. We actively support 2 police officers and their families in Sri Lanka. The policemen both lost limbs in the armed conflict there and cannot work. We provide resources for artificial limbs and other family based support.
We also support the work of Dr Clifford Perera in his continuing Forensic Medicine work in Galle where he is responsible for the processing and identification of the remains of people who died in the Tsunami in 2004.
Is Sukhita Child a registered charity?
Yes. We are registered with OSCR, the Scottish Charities Registrar. Our registered number is SC037555
Why give to Sukhita Child instead of other charities?
The 90 Sukhita Home children are a wonderful community who when we found them lacked the basic essentials of living such as food, water supply, a roof which didn't leak, clean clothing, toilets and washing facilities. We are in the process of hugely improving their environment and we hope, with your help, to be able to make their lives safer, more secure and happier as a result.
We have strong links with the local community in Sri Lanka and experience of working there which enables us to ensure that any donations are effectively spent to ensure maximum benefit to the children.
Is all work purely voluntary?
We all work on an entirely voluntary basis. We do pay local workmen and artisans in Sri Lanka when necessary for building projects. this is done at local rates of pay.
Will feedback be given on how money is spent through Sukhita Child?
We will publish a yearly report and will post this on our website as well as sending the report to OSCR.
What does the charity do with my contribution?
Our projects and grants given are shown on the website. We are extremely efficient and keep costs to the minimum to ensure the maximum possible amount is available to be directly spent on projects.
I can’t afford much but would still like to help, what difference can I make?
If you are a taxpayer and make your contribution by GIFT Aid we can reclaim tax at the basic rate which effectively increase your donation by around 25%.
We welcome contact with anyone interested in helping or organising fundraising events. Please simply contact us through the website.
